“Fame,” “Sea Quest” Actors Die

Gene Anthony RayJonathan Brandis Let the mourning commence: Gene Anthony Ray, best known for playing dancer Leroy Johnson in the film and television versions of Fame, died today from complications of a stroke in New York City. The performer was 41 years old. Man, could this guy dance — I surely will miss him. And this just breaks my heart: 27-year-old actor Jonathan Brandis, a former child star whose biggest role was Lucas Wolenczek on the TV series “Sea Quest DSV” and who received plenty of press for dating “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” actor Tatyana M. Ali about a decade ago, died, authorities believe, by his own hand. E! reports: “Police said a friend of Brandis’ called 911 from the actor’s apartment just before midnight on November 11 to report that Brandis had attempted suicide by hanging. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital but he died the next day.”

Rest in peace, gentlemen. Many condolences to Ray’s mother, to Brandis’ parents, and to both actors’ loved ones and fans.
