Happy new year!
Well, I hope the new year will be a good one, but given how awful the past years have been, I have my doubts. Building hope, I think, should be my personal goal for 2006, but that depends on life getting bettter. Fingers are crossed that livable employment can be found, and fast, because hope is in extremely short supply right about now.
For the world, the same is true, the situation at least as dire. Building hope is absolutely essential if we are to emerge from the global darkness that engulfs those of us who believe in peace, justice, equality, and other progressive ideals. In the US, I believe a necessary burst of hope starts with one word: Impeachment.
With the prospect of ridding ourselves of Bush-Cheney in mind (wow, was there a flicker of… joy in my head?), check out this to-do list from the blog Bulldog Manifesto – and get to work. Action is what will build hope. Action is what will change our world for the better. Action must be our focus if we intend to eradicate injustice, squash apathy, liberate those who need emancipation from mental slavery, and rescue America – and the world – from the greedy, the controlling and the intolerant.
We can do it! The Bulldog Manifesto’s plan, which was “inspired by” the blog Redneck Mother, is one road toward positive, progressive action.
1. Familiarize yourself with The Question:
The Bush administration simply can not answer this one question – if time was of the essence, why didn’t they conduct the searches and get the warrants after the fact, something that is allowed under the FISA law? They conducted the searches [all right], but they never once sought the retroactive warrants.
2. Send an email to all of these media folks and ask them The Question.
3. Sign Sen.Barbara Boxer’s (D-CA) petition.
4. Contact your senator.
5. Contact your congressional representative.
6. Contact Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-MI)too.
7. File a Freedom of Information Act request HERE.
8. Sign Rep. John Conyers’ (D-MI) petition to censure and investigate impeachment.
9. Join the guerilla marketing campaign.
10. Make a donation to ImpeachPAC.
11. Join the Impeach Bush Coalition.
Resolution time: Whatever your previous level of activity, resolve to be more active in 2006. Commit to making yourself healthier – nourish your body and your mind. Promise to read a variety of information sources – including those offering opposing points of view. Dedicate yourself to making the world a better, cleaner, fairer place – whatever moral means it takes to achieve that. Swear to put doing what’s right over what’s popular or expedient, whatever the cost – principle beats politics in the grand scheme. And know that making all these resolutions means diddly without actually doing something. So get busy… for hope’s sake.
