Just learned the terrible news that Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh has prostate cancer. Via the Official Phil Lesh and Friends Web site, the artist announced that he will undergo surgery in December — and that he is optimistic: “I fully expect to have a rapid and complete recovery. I am feeling energetic as always, and all my scheduled appearances will occur as planned.”
Gotta love that spirit.
Lesh added a message that I hope all you men will absorb and follow: “Speak to your doctor about having periodic regular PSA screening for early detection of prostate cancer. You may save your own life.”

Please send some love and light and positive vibrations out to Phil and his family and to everyone fighting prostate cancer. (I wonder how Dan Fogelberg is doing? Healing light needed…)
Later tonight (specifically 10 PM Eastern), it’s the Weekly Saturday Live on Grateful Dread Radio. This week, we’ll spin the June 20, 2006, Phil Lesh and Friends performance from Nashville, TN. I figure, let’s fuel the collective engine through Lesh’s sounds, which would no doubt please him — and which should allow us to unleash some hellacious positive energy into the world and back to Phil. Come on and join us for the Live.
